🎹 “Victory Verticals”—Pianos That Went to War
From August 8 to September 7, 2025, the Museum of Flight is hosting a special exhibit in the Personal Courage Wing (World War II Gallery). It stars three fully restored Steinway “Victory Vertical” pianos—compact GI uprights built by Steinway & Sons to survive airdrops, ship decks, and remote battlefronts to lift troop morale.
Mini-concerts on Saturday, August 16 (11 AM–3 PM) featuring local pianists playing as troops might have heard.
Opening symposium on August
9 exploring the cultural role of music and the pianos’ production, including stories from restorers Frank Haude and Jordan Cook.
"Women on the Production Line” talk on August 23 highlighting the important wartime contributions of women at Steinway.
