Book a night or two in Seattle Southside to pamper yourself with the following itinerary, which includes a nice balance of fun shopping experiences, soothing spa treatments, and indulgent bites.

The first day's itinerary works beautifully whether you're flying solo or traveling with a date or friend. Get all dolled up, then pick out a new wardrobe at the state's largest shopping center.

Let Your Hair Down

Start your day with a quiet breakfast at your hotel. Then, head to Gene Juarez Salon & Spa for a soothing hair or skin treatment. Located in Tukwila's Southcenter Square, this well-known salon is a short drive from many local hotels. If you're due for a cut or color, take the opportunity to get one, and enjoy a deeply relaxing wash and blow-dry while you're there. You'll look and feel great for the rest of the day. Beyond hair care, Gene Juarez also offers manicures and pedicures, reflexology, and many skincare services, including facials, peels, microblading, and waxing.

If your favorite part of a haircut is the scalp massage, you may benefit from a different kind of experience. Jenny Beauty Headspa, also in Tukwila, is specifically focused on scalp and neck massages and treatments. You'll lie down on a special bed made just for this purpose, enjoy a long, soothing wash and treatment, and come out feeling amazing.

A Casual-Yet-Elegant Lunch

Next, head to Westfield Southcenter, which is just a few minutes away. There, you can grab lunch at JOEY, a chic, modern restaurant where you'll likely be greeted with a complimentary glass of bubbly on arrival. The menu centers on New American cuisine, but you can also get a variety of globally inspired dishes such as Mediterranean salads, sushi, and tacos. For the most part, the dishes lean healthy, making it a great choice for a wellness-focused getaway. While it can get busy during lunch, the well-designed dining area never feels overly loud, and the vibe strikes the perfect balance between upscale and casual.

Pro Tip: Don't skip the inventive mocktail options, perfect for a midday meal.

Take Yourself on a Shopping Spree

Next up: A shopping trip at Westfield Southcenter, the largest shopping center in Washington. This retail paradise has more than 200 stores selling anything you can imagine. If you're overwhelmed, start at legacy department store Nordstrom, which has a relaxing environment to set the tone for your afternoon. (Fun fact: it was founded nearby in Seattle). Other popular clothing stores include Macy's, Uniqlo, ALDO, H&M, Levi's, The North Face, and Urban Outfitters. For skincare and cosmetics, check out Sephora, MAC, LUSH, and Aveda. There are also shops specializing in jewelry, tech products, athletic clothes, toys, and fan gear for Seattle sports teams.

Shopping Breaks

When you need to take a load off, grab a bite or a refreshing drink from one of the dozens of eateries inside the mall. The food court on the second floor has many places to pick up refreshments and a nice seating area. When the sun is shining, you can step onto the patio, rest at a picnic table, and even enjoy a view of Mount Rainier (weather permitting).

Before leaving the mall, grab a take-home treat from a gourmet candy shop. We love ROYCE', a Japanese chocolate shop with some of the most luxurious chocolates you'll ever see. The beautiful packaging makes them perfect for gifting. It's one of several popular chocolate shops in Seattle Southside.

Ease Into Dinner

Your R&R day should be about minimum effort and maximum enjoyment, so we suggest staying at the mall for dinner. There are many full-service restaurants to choose from, whether you're craving lively Korean BBQ, savory dumplings, a piping hot bowl of noodles, fresh tacos, or local seafood.

Locally owned Mr. Dim Sum has a nice, quiet ambiance. If you're traveling solo, it's the kind of place where it would not seem odd to dine by yourself at the bar.

After all that shopping, collapse into a comfortable hotel room nearby. There are more than 60 hotels in Seattle Southside, and they each have something special about them. Browse our directory and find one with all the amenities you want.

Traveler Tip: While there are many hotels in Tukwila right near the stores, there are also many hotels in SeaTac (near the airport) that offer a complimentary Shopping and Dining Shuttle. You can get picked up right at the hotel and dropped off at the mall.

Day 2 - Local Shops and a Luxury Spa

After getting your fill of the mall, head down to the waterfront town of Des Moines and enjoy a different kind of shopping day perusing local businesses.

Small Town Charm

About a 10-15 minute drive south of Sea-Tac Airport, you'll find the waterfront town of Des Moines, which has quite a few cute, locally owned cafes and shops. Start your morning with a fresh pastry and locally roasted coffee at Second Love, then head around the corner to Iris & Peony, a quaint florist where you can pick up upscale gifts and home decor.

Next, you could check out nearby Des Moines Beach Park, which has a great summer farmers market that runs from June through September. Located at the waterfront, visitors can drink in the view while enjoying a snack from food vendors serving up everything from burgers to pastries. It's one of several lovely farmers markets in the area where you can find locally made gifts and goods in addition to fresh produce.

A Plant Store You Won't Want to Leave

Next, hop back in the car and take a short drive to Zenith Holland Nursery & Gift. This incredible greenhouse has a surprisingly large retail section, with tons of thoughtfully curated items. Shop for everything from leather bags and wool scarves to high-end candles and throw pillows to adorable gifts for children and pets. It also goes all out for the holidays, making it a must-stop if you're visiting during the fall.

When it's time for lunch, head back to the waterfront and treat yourself to fresh seafood with a view at Anthony's HomePort & Lower Deck. It has indoor and outdoor seating, and some of the best seafood in the area. We love the shellfish and fish tacos.

If you still have energy for shopping after lunch, take yourself treasure hunting at local thrift shops. There are several large stores concentrated near each other in Tukwila, including a Goodwill and Value Village. Half Price Books is particularly fun to peruse because it stocks a wide selection of fiction and nonfiction (including new bestsellers at lower prices), in addition to records, movies, and cute, unique gifts. You might come in for a beach read and leave with a bag full of gifts to take home.

The Ultimate Pampering Experience

Next, head to SeaTac to The Spa at Cedarbrook. Located inside Cedarbrook, a luxury resort with a warm, woodsy feel, this spa is a haven of relaxation. Just reading the extensive treatment menu is enough to make you start fantasizing. While you can get facials, body wraps, and pedicures, we recommend going all out and booking one of the 50-80 minute massages for your getaway. Traveler Tip: If you're traveling with a partner, opt for one of the couples massage options. The Candlelight Soak begins with a 15-minute soak in a private jetted bubble bath.

A Farm-Fresh Dinner

You don't have to leave the resort for dinner. Just head to Copperleaf Restaurant & Bar, which offers a truly special dining experience. The menu is seasonally updated to reflect the freshest produce and ingredients the region has to offer, which is part of what makes it so special. There's also a premium wine and spirits menu, and outdoor and indoor seating. When you're done, take a stroll around the resort's well-maintained grounds.

It's the perfect end to a weekend of pampering and indulgence.
